Frequently asked questions

What is Flip, and what does it do?

Flip is Flipturn's AI charging operations agent. It monitors your EV charging network 24/7, detects issues as they emerge, tracks them through to resolution, and sends a daily recap of your charging health. Rather than logging into a dashboard to find problems, Flip surfaces them to you with recommended actions based on OEM documentation and operational best practices.

How is Flip different from standard charger monitoring alerts?

Standard alerts notify you when something has already failed. Flip identifies patterns across your network before they become outages, catching recurring faults, degrading charger behavior, and trends that a threshold-based alert system would miss. It also consolidates all issues into a single daily digest rather than generating alert noise for every individual event.

What kinds of charger issues can Flip detect and recommend fixes for?

Flip analyzes OCPP logs and session data to detect faults, failed sessions, connectivity issues, and performance degradation across your charger network. Recommended actions are based on OEM manuals and insights from industry experts, so operators get specific remediation steps rather than raw diagnostic data.

Is my charging data used to train AI models?

No. Flipturn does not use your data to train AI models, and AI functionality is fully opt-in. Flip operates on your data privately.

Does Flip work with any EV charger brand?

Yes. Flip works with any charger connected to the Flipturn platform via OCPP 1.6J or OCPP 2.0.1. It analyzes OCPP log data at the protocol level and also supports proprietary integrations with specific hardware manufacturers.

Does using Flip require additional hardware or the Flipturn Controller?

No additional hardware is required. Flip is a software feature within the Flipturn platform and works via the cloud connection your chargers already use to communicate with Flipturn. It also works alongside the Flipturn Controller for sites that have one deployed.
