As more fleets are electrifying, the need for charging is increasing rapidly. Zeem, one of the first and largest shared depot charging providers in the US, is taking an innovative approach around full-service charging. Drivers drop off their vehicles at a Zeem lot, and Zeem takes care of charging the vehicle.
Since the shared fleet charging business model is relatively new, there wasn't an off-the-shelf solution that already supported every aspect of Zeem's needs. Flipturn and Zeem collaborated to build out efficient workflows for managing high-volume charging depots. As Zeem's business grows, a continued feedback loop with Flipturn means that emerging needs are addressed as they come up.

Modernized, time-saving operations
For Zeem, it's critical to accurately and efficiently track charging sessions. In the world of transportation, the need for efficient and timely service is critical. Given the need to quickly and reliably refuel zero-emission fleets, every single charging session needs to be carefully tracked at the individual charger level. The data points provided to Zeem by Flipturn include:
- Energy usage broken down by time of day
- Which vehicle was charging
- Which customer should be billed for this charging session
- Start and end state of charge
- Odometer reading of the vehicle
Flipturn uses data from the charger to fill in many of these details automatically—for example, if a vehicle has been seen before, it can be automatically identified via the MAC address. For other pieces of data, Flipturn provides an efficient data-entry workflow where depot technicians can check vehicles in and input additional fields using hand-held tablet computers.
Actionable, real-time visibility
Zeem's charging depots provide charging to many fleets and drivers, turning around over 800 charging sessions per day. This requires immediate real-time visibility across all operations:
- Which chargers are available?
- Which vehicles are done charging and can be moved off of the charger?
- Which chargers are experiencing issues that need to be addressed?
Flipturn's real-time charger dashboard is optimized for seeing at-a-glance details for 60+ chargers on one screen, as well as for drilling into an individual charger to see details. It's displayed on monitors in Zeem's driver lounges, as well as used by on-the-ground operators to quickly check in on charger status.

Streamlined billing and reporting
The charging session data gathered from the chargers and on-site personnel is at the core of Zeem's business operations. Flipturn is designed to make tying this data into Zeem's business processes as streamlined as possible:
- Energy usage reporting can be split by sites, utility rates, and customers, making it easy to determine how much each customer should be billed
- Charger health reporting makes it easy to identify problematic chargers, with detailed logs to diagnose issues
- API data access allows importing charging data into internal billing and bookkeeping systems
- Direct integration to satisfy utility incentive data reporting requirements
